Events and Festivals in Ireland 2010
Ireland has many wonderful events and festivals every year and if you are planning to come here in 2010, you will be able to choose many different options... I would like to list the main annual festivals here and give you a brief description of each event.Of course, you can find many more festivals all over the country, but these are some of the most well-known... Chinese New Year, January 22nd to January 30th
The Chinese New year festival is one of the first festivals of the year in Ireland and it is also one of the most spectacular. There are many colourful parades, traditional Chinese music, dance, art, martial arts and of course...Chinese food! It takes place in various locations around Dublin, including City Hall, Parnell St and Temple Bar. If you would like to experience Irish music and culture, then you should definitely visit this festival!
It takes place at the end of January and it includes concerts, free events, parades and much more.
Some of Ireland's best traditional musicians perform at this event and you can also see performances from traditional Irish dancers.
The festival also offers you a great introduction to Irish traditions!
Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, Feb 18th to Feb 28th
The Jameson Film festival is the main film festival in Ireland. It takes place in all the main city centre cinemas and also in some outdoor locations.
Films from over 30 countries are shown each year and many of these are first screenings of the film.
You probably won't see Brad Pitt at the festival, but there's always a chance you could meet Colin Farrell...
St. Patrick's Festival, Mar 2010
Of course the most well-known Irish festival in the world is the St.Patrick's festival.
Parades and celebrations take place all over the country on March 17th and the place is like one giant party!
During the festival week, Irish people are encouraged to speak Irish and you will see more signs and advertisements in Irish during this period.
Wherever you are living in Ireland, there is a good chance that you will end up in an Irish pub (bar) on March 17th, probably drinking some Guinness!
Taste of Dublin, June 2010
Taste of Dublin is one of the main food and drink festivals in Ireland in recent years.
It takes place in Dublin city centre and many of the best restaurants are present at the event.
You can see world-famous chefs giving demonstrations and tastings with some of the best Irish and international food.
You can also improve your wine tasting skills with help from the experts!

The street performance festival is definitely one of the most entertaining of all the festivals.
It takes place in Merrion Square and performers come from all over the world to take part in the competition.
You can see many different acts, including...magicians, breakdancers, jugglers and much more...!
Dun Laoghaire Festival of World Cultures, Aug 2010
The Festival of World Cultures is the largest intercultural celebration in Ireland every year.
It takes place in the south of Dublin and you can experience many different cultures, music and arts from around the world.
There are also food markets, cultural demonstrations and art exhibitions.
And...tickets are free for almost every show!
Puck Fair, Aug 2010
Puck Fair is one of the oldest and most unusual festivals in Ireland.
It takes place in a small town in Kerry, on the south west coast of Ireland.
The festival offers free family entertainment and also has parades, concerts and fireworks.

Rose of Tralee, Aug 2010
The Rose of Tralee is a competition for young women and it takes place every year in Tralee, Co.Kerry.
The winner is chosen based on her personality and her suitability to be an ambassador for Ireland for one year.
The competition takes place over two nights, but there are also many events taking place during the week...
These include...free concerts, parades, fireworks and traditional Irish music and dancing.
