Accommodation for International Students
When I first came to Ireland, for my accommodation, I decided to stay with an Irish family. I thought that I would improve my English much faster living with an Irish family. But I moved after a short time because I was living only with an Irish lady, and I had little opportunity to talk with her. This was not helping my English. So I decided to start my search for a new house, where I could talk in English with more people. I used the website
Daft.ie
and I found hundreds of houses and apartments. It's a very easy website to use, even for a foreign girl like me! The majority of the houses have pictures, and this will help in your choice. Luckily, one day I went to see a house just north of Dublin city and all of a sudden I realised I had found my new home!
I moved to this house and I lived with one girl from Brazil and two girls from Italy. You might however, decide not to stay with a host family when you come to Ireland and you have a few options in this case... Staying in hostels or an inexpensive hotel.
In hostels you meet a lot of people, many of whom are doing the same thing as you! I have stayed in many hostels around Europe, and there is always a good atmosphere around. If you choose to stay in a hostel before looking for a house or an apartment, I think that a good idea is booking a bedroom for about 2 weeks. This gives you time to make sure you will find a nice place to stay and that the accommodation is in a good area. The best website that I can recommend for hostels in Ireland is HostelWorld.com However, if you prefer to stay in a hotel when you arrive here, then there are a lot of hotels that you can select. Again, you should book a bedroom for a few weeks to give yourself a chance to find a nice place to stay. There are many websites for hotels in Ireland, but I prefer to use
Booking.com
You can find a cheaper rate here than booking directly with the hotel and usually you don't need to pay before you arrive.
And if you have any questions about accommodation in Dublin,
please feel free to ask me!
Every country in the world has different laws when it comes to housing and you should be aware of your rights when you rent a house or an apartment here. You can also contact me to ask about the safest areas to live in Dublin.
